Boredom and Bouts of Terror

They used to say that war was “Months of boredom interpspersed with moments of sheer terror”

That’s been work since I got back from Universal.

It’s been so…eerily normal. Daily standups. Sprint planning. Bug fixes. Small, slight Operations changes.

Honestly, it’s like we looked at December when everyone was on leave and said, “Umm….yeah, just do that for a few weeks. We’ll get back to you.” Product Managers have been kibbutzing away from the rest of us. Plans within plans within obscure plans.

So….what does that all mean?

Well for one thing there’s the obvious: The rumored layoffs will probably be Monday or Tuesday. We’ve “known” that there were a complementary set of cuts coming after last October, but there’s no ground-level information. So, we’ll see.

The second for my group, there’s probably a re-organization (“re-org”) coming. These changes are banal and typically amount to middle-managers yelling “MINE!” until someone higher-up tells them to behave.

Until then, one of the rare times at Amazon when I’m somewhat bored.
